My Work {direct link}

As you may have read on the home page, and gathered so far, I work in a number of areas.

The main element of work nowadays is Arts Consultancy, but this really encapsulates the differing areas you can get more info on. I work as a consultant to various organisations and provide help and advice to these organisations and individuals regarding projects and progression based on my personal experiences and endless research I have conducted through many projects. My specialist areas are web, theatre/arts, marketing, and engagement training.

Please use the menu on the right to get more info on each area, and a link will be provided to the relevant site.

Training & Facilitation {direct link}

I have for the last 3 years worked with an organisation called the Participation Works Consortium as an associate. I have progressed there to a full associate, now designing and delivering bespoke training courses and presentations focussed on how to embed policy and engage with stakeholders (in most of our clients' case young people, but also parents & guardians).

This has stemmed from my extensive involvement in youth politics affairs over the last few years and my passion for equality in the world and between people. I continue to be involved in voluntary projects in order to contine my training and broaden my experiences further.

I have a wealth of experience and knowledge in facilitation methods, including an inventory of activities suitable for many situations - and all of which I can adapt and expand whenever needed.

All customer requirements vary and most courses are designed to meet the needs of the organisation/s, and are always adjusted on the day to meet the needs of the group at that point in time. Please contact me to discuss your requirements. I operate a sliding scale for different types of organisations - and depending on the work that needs to be done. As a guide it can cost between £200 and £500 a day for training, plus expenses. View more cost info.

I carry Professional Indemnity Insurance and Public Liability insurance, I am trained to undertake risk assesments and have an enhanced CRB check. I have a knowledge of suitable venues throughout the country and can even arrange for online feedback or the hire of a projector etc as needed.

Technical Theatre {direct link}

I have had a passion for theatre for years. I started by performing, and for the past 7 years I have also been 'teching' on shows. Unfortunately I 've not performed for a couple of years now, but I love designing the lights and setting up all the equipment just as much, if not more nowadays. I used to get an amazing feeling being on stage at the curtain call with full house giving standing ovation. Now I gain as much elation from seeing a show pulled off smoothly and the effects I create having a real impact on a performance.

I take pride in all my tech work and thoroughly enjoy passing this knowledge on to others. As part of a local youth theatre and several other local youth arts groups I acted as everything from a lighting tech to production manager.

Most recently I have been working on events as a manager at Fun Matters Ltd in Nottingham, and as the Events Officer for NTU Entreprenuers Society and working as Production Manager for the National Tour of TheatreIS...'s It's Our Theatre and Technical Stage Manager for the professional development show called Epiphany.

I like to thank people where credit is due, and I beleive I have been able to do this because of the following people: Steve Andrews, Kate Plumb, Vicky Bell, Sarah Lovell, & Stuart Mullins (with the team at TheatreIS...)

Technical Theatre - Biography from CEG Site {direct link}

This is my old biography from the CEG site
Emrys has worked extensively in the arts for 15 years now. Starting out as a performer Emrys undertook many lead roles in numerous productions, and then fell in love with the technical side of productions.

Still performing, Emrys started training through 'getting on with it' and undertaking work based learning with a number of people and organisations letting the mix of technical and performing edge further and further towards technical theatre. Now involved mostly in production theatre and arts management Emrys works countrywide as a consultant, letting his creative flair spread in numerous forms.

Emrys was not only one of the first 2 in the Eastern Region to pass his Gold Arts Award at their moderation in November 2007, but he was the only one to have passed his Silver ArtsAward the December previous too. The ArtsAward celebration doesn't stop there though as Emrys is the first person in the country to go on to become a trained Adviser after completing the awards.

Web Development {direct link}

My very first business back in October 2006 was Dragonem Web Development - when I took om my first paid development job for a local restaurant. I am proficient in CSS & XHTML and have a good implementation knowledge of both JavaScript and PHP. I make use of all of these on this site.

Since then I have also had BEhost & BEhost2, and am now development director at MDK Web & Media Ltd. My main areas of expertise, or focus, now are user journeys, accessibility and testing management. In other words I help design the information architecture of a site, help implement things like print and text versions of a site and then manage a group of people to test the various functions (and ofcourse test it myself).

Some of the sites I have been involved in can be scrolled through using the link below below.

Advice for Businesses {direct link}

Starting up ventures and organisations can be tough, knowing where to grow and develop after the initial period can be even tougher.

Having set up organisations, been involved in the development of national engagement and educational programmes and initiatives I'm only too aware of the pitfalls, challenges and barriers faced. Through all of these experiences, most of which can be found mentioned on this site, I have developed learning and a suite of knowledge that can help any business, social enterprise or charity to look at challenges in a new way.

If you're struggling to improve your profit margins, struggling to motivate staff or simply keep losing track of your systems becomes your processes are out of date then I can help, and with a lot more too.

Through a series of meetings, potentially workshops with staff, and some research I can help you to find new methods and enhance your ideas by simply looking at things in a new way, bringing best practice, innovations and current news to the table for you to peruse.

Prices are flexible, depends on the type of organisation you are and how much you need. A description of your state and the problems your having can often be enough for me to respond over a phone call with ideas and pointers including sign posts to more information following some research. I ofcourse always advise that data is collected, that progress is benchmarked and that reporting is possible.
