Youth Advocacy
What is this about??
Youth Advocacy is all about collecting and representing the views of young people. My main outlet should i say for this work is the ever growing BSE Youth Council which i co-founded in recent years. With an injection of funding from YOF not long ago we have been able to get set up with new projects for the benefit of people across BSE and the surrounding area. We have even been asked for consultations and research for a variety of things from the arts, to the explore card and even the NHS! Talking of the Explore Card that is one of the things that i have been involved in to make it come about - from the design to the possible uses.
My other outlet for youth advocacy work is mainly through the National Childrens Bureau where in some way connected i have been involved in the planning of a flagship building for youth and disabled organisations, the training of young people in the 'Built Environment', shaping the policy priorities for the APHO who inform the Government (everything from Mental Health, Stress, SexEd, Obesity, and self harm), creating resources as such and even shaping the priorities for the NCB itself.
The last outlet besides all the little ones like UKYP and so on, is the Arts Council England. My work with them is actually quite varied from sitting on their YPPT's national youth council, to coordinating the regional council (with the wonderful Ruby from Cambridge), planning events, assesing theatres and festivals, and even sitting on the Digital Strategy Committee as well as coordinating some work on a National Scale. The press release related to this can be found on the Media Watch page.
